Kenya – Nairobi

After the city and beach destinations, it was time for nature tourism again. The Ngorongoro and Serengeti regions are world famous, and for good reason. There was a huge variety of animals and you could see many of them up close.

The island of Zanzibar is a short ferry ride from Dar es Salaam and the African mainland. The lush green island is rich in spices and fruits. We spent a few relaxed days sightseeing and beachcombing.

The border crossing from Malawi to Tanzania took place in a pretty remote area. Although the roads were in better condition than in Malawi, the truck traffic was very heavy. The journey towards Dar es Salaam took three days.

Malawi has no significant natural resources, industry or tourism revenue. It has the sixth lowest GDP per capita in the world, which is clearly reflected in its streetscape and lack of infrastructure.

Zambia

From Zimbabwe, the journey continued to Zambia. Here too, we really only had one longer, proper stop. Otherwise, we admired the scenery and the small villages with their stalls whizzing by, mainly through the windows of the truck.

We only stayed a couple of nights in Zimbabwe and only had time to see the country's most famous attraction, Victoria Falls. We also said goodbye to our guides from the first leg of our trip, as we would be greeted by a new team in Zambia.

Botswana

We traveled along the Okavango River from Namibia to Botswana. We explored the area on river cruises, a scenic flight, and numerous safari drives. In just a few days, we saw an incredible number of animals!

Namibia, part II

After hiking in the Brandberg area, we moved on to Etosha National Park to spot animals. And there were plenty to see, both in the wild and at dinner. Judging by the sounds, there were also animals roaming around the campsite.

Namibia is mostly desert. Since the greener areas are in the northern part of the country and we arrived from South Africa, our first week was very dry and crisp. The landscapes were ruggedly beautiful.

Saturday morning was the moment of departure. At eight o'clock in the morning, our truck started from the courtyard of a local hotel, and our journey had officially begun. From South Africa, we quickly crossed over to Namibia.
